Did you know that your heart is a heavy-duty pump that beats about 100,000 beats every 24 hours. During this time pumps about 1,800 gallons of blood. With this amount of gas your car could travel for 40,000 miles or circle the world 600 times in one year!!

Occasionally this heavy-duty machine fails. One of the major reasons for this failure is the occurrence of a heart attack (myocardial infarction), the #1 killer in the U.S today. Every year, more than 1.5 million people in the U.S suffer a heart attack. More importantly, about one third of them
die suddenly during the first hour after the symptoms start.

It is therefore one of the main goals of modern cardiology to shorten the time span between initiation of symptoms of a heart attack and the arrival of medical help or the arrival of the patient in the hospital to less than one hour.

One of Cardiomedix’s missions is to assist patients in the very early stages of a heart attack, while they are far away from immediate medical help: at home, work or on the golf course. It is imperative that heart attack patients be under immediate medical supervision, preferably within the first hour from the initiation of symptoms. It has been amply proven that early, specialized, medical intervention within this time frame, "The golden hour", can save lives, diminish the damage to the heart and expedite recovery.

Despite all efforts to create rapid emergency medical access facilities and to educate the public, the average time delay for heart attack victims before they seek medical help is still about 6 hours.

Two of the main (amongst many) reasons for such a major delay are:
A. The atypical nature of the symptoms: Who can guess that a pain in the jaw, back pain or heart burn after a heavy meal may actually be the first signs of an evolving heart attack?

B. Patient denial: Most patients do not want to admit to themselves or to others that they are sick and in need of medical care. "The pain will go away, It is probably not serious", "I do not want to bother my family/friends/colleagues" are two of the most common thoughts. Moreover, very few patients would be delighted at the arrival of paramedics with blazing lights and a noisy siren at their house to get them to the hospital.

The Cardiomedix solution:

Patients enrolled in the Cardiomedix service can contact our highly qualified cardiac nurse at the Cardiomedix control center at any time day or night, from any telephone worldwide. They will be asked to describe their symptoms and transmit their ECG. This will help the experienced nurse to identify the warning signs and the need for immediate medical emergency care.

Our solution has been proven as the only effective way to shorten the so-called “patient response time” by:

  1. Facilitating the contact with trained personnel
  2. Eliminating the denial
  3. Shortening the delay in getting medical help by directly calling the paramedics Notifying the hospital ER of relevant medical data
  4. Notifying your physician of the situation
